CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 31 (PIA) -- The prevalence of drug abuse, and the abuse of women and children has prompted the Department of Health Region 3 to intensify its campaign towards mental health. These factors are the leading causes of mental illness in the region.
The mental health program in the region involves the implementation of strategies which include public-private partnership, establishment of a database and information system, development of model programs and monitoring.
The Provincial Health Offices ( PHO ) and the psychiatric units of government hospitals are tasked to make an inventory of cases of mental illness, their causes, and prescribed interventions.
Specialized services such as psychological and psychiatric support will be given by the Mariveles Mental Hospital and the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU ) of the Jose B. Lingad Regional Hospital.
Evacuees and other victims of disasters will receive stress debriefing sessions from health workers. There will be services for family reunification to bring back together those separated by calamities.
Survivors of gender-based violence particularly women will be prioritized in the provision of emotional support and later of livelihood support.
All these will be undertaken in partnership with private volunteer groups.
To achieve the development of model programs, all the national government agencies in the region were asked to integrate the promotion of mental health in their regular work programs. Through this, the best strategies could be chosen and pursued. (CLJD/RGSD-PIA3).
