CAGAYAN, Sept. 3 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 2 is set to go on mobile registration and licensing of all commercial fishing vessels in the coastal zones and island towns and province in Cagayan Valley Region.
Jay Arr Usquisa, technical staff, said program is a joint activity with the Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine Coastguard and the National telecommunications Commission this coming September to establish a data base of commercial fishing vessels which is essential in the administration’s thrust to curb illegal, reported and unregulated fishing.
He said the activity is also part of the enforcement of maritime laws, efforts in the conservation and protection of marine resources, and establish data base of sea transport vehicles.
"We have beenstrictly implementing registration and licensing of sea transport vehicles, especially fishing vessels and we also initiated the mobile registration and licensing to bring the services nearer to the vessel operators so that they could easily process their documentary requirements," Usquisa stated.
He stated that composite teams were created to do the mobile registration in the islands and coastal zones and implement the simplified registration and licensing system to enable easy process to the registrants.
He also stated that the data base of registered commercial fishing vessels will be utilized in identifying beneficiaries of government programs and projects intended for the fisherfolk sector.
Prior to the actual registration, Usquisa also said, the team will conduct sea safety training to the operators to enable them understand and follow sea transport safety regulations and related laws. (OTB/PIA-2)
