CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, September 25 (PIA) -- While measures to address the needs of the underprivileged have been intensified, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Central Luzon has made history, being the first regional office in the country to launch Listahanan.
Listahanan or Talaan ng Pamilyang Nangangailangan is the new branding of the government’s poverty reduction program previously known as the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).
Being the pioneer database of poor households nationwide, DSWD’s enhanced information management system aims to easily identify who and where the poor are, so that necessary assistance from the government will be given to identified beneficiaries of the social protection programs.
Regional Deputy Project Manager Lalaine de Leon explained that Listahanan shares database among national government agencies collective information of the poor households nationwide.
“Through this upgraded system, we want to objectively come up with the list of target families who will benefit from social protection programs of various government and non-government agencies, civil society and basic sectors,” de Leon added.
Meanwhile, DSWD Regional Director Adelina Apostol emphasized that proportion of Central Luzon’s poverty rate has been put under control, as 250, 000 beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program have been able to uplift their living conditions since the said program began on 2008.
“Having Listahanan in effect, the full support and cooperation of various government offices will be of great help to immediately respond to the needs of the poor households in the region,” Apostol said.
Listahanan will cover 1, 451, 248 households in rural areas and pockets of poverty in urban areas from Region III.
Through its execution, DSWD will conduct its second round of family assessment in the third quarter of 2013 to identify poor families deserving of assistance from social protection services. (CLJD/LGCC-PIA 3)
