ILOILO CITY, March 19 (PIA6) --- Pupils from Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School (SBCES) here showcased projects on money management and entrepreneurship to educational institutions of Brunei, as an activity in line with the celebration of Global Money Week.

The projects, under the SBCES Financial Literacy Program including Karitong Pangkarunungan, Karitong Pangkabuhayan, and the longest bamboo coinbank were presented through web and video conferencing.

The SBCES Financial Literacy Program is spearheaded by Mae Pangantihon, a 2013 GURO ng PAG-ASA (Gantimpala para sa Ulirang PagtutuRO sa PAG-iimpok at Araling PanSAlapi) winner for Edukasyong Pantahan at Pangkabuhayan.

GURO ng PAGASA is a rewards program of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for the best teachers who have taught and integrated lessons in savings, money management and basic entrepreneurship in the elementary curriculum.

Pangantihon said that the SBCES Financial Literacy Program is based on the teaching guides provided by BSP which contained lessons focusing on financial education teaching pupils the importance of the habit of saving money.

She said the Karitong Pangkarunungan contains books and other reading materials utilized by her pupils in Grade V-Diamond to tutor kids in lower levels.

“The project allows her pupils to earn P5 per session by teaching kids in the lower grades basic financial education lessons, saving money and everyday subjects with consent from parents,” she said.

She also said that Karitong Pangkabuhayan has given the opportunity for her pupils to cook nutritious food and juices and sell them to schoolmates.

“Whatever income they earn, they save them and these will be deposited in the bank once the money reached P100,” she further said.

The pupils of Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School also showcased the longest bamboo coin bank or “alkansiya”. All the pupils in this school own a coin bank where they save their money. (JSC/LTP-PIA6  Iloilo)
