DAVAO CITY, June 17 (PIA)-- The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration XI and the Shoe Mart City-Davao will conduct a joint pre-employment seminar and mini-job fair on June 19 aimed at informing job applicants on the employment process to work abroad.

Speaking at the Kapehan sa SM City Dabaw, Engr. Nick Santos, assistant marketing manager of the SM City Davao said activity is open to all people from 1:00 to 5:00 pm when all applicants are taught how to apply for overseas employment.

He said it is important that Filipinos must be protected from illegal-job-recruitment schemes.

“We ought to teach our overseas workers what they need to do when they want to work abroad,” Santos said.

Carolina Agdamag, regional director of the POEA XI said the activity will highlight the pre-employment orientation seminar and mini-job fair which will be conducted in SM City.

She said a simultaneous activity will be launched in nearby provinces through the POEA-on-wheels to discuss the available legal services of the POEA.

Agdamag said the campaign against illegal-overseas-job recruitment will also be discussed lengthily with the law enforcement agencies in the region.

She also revealed that many jobseekers from Davao Region are bound for the Middle East countries.

“We have processed from January to April 2013, a total of eight thousand overseas workers regardless of countries of destination,” Agdamag said.

She said on the top ten list for country-destination includes, Saudi Arabia, and then followed by United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Thailand.

She said, Thailand is a favorite destination for teachers. (RGA/JSD/PIA-XI)
