MANDAUE CITY, CEBU, April 29 - President Benigno S. Aquino III here Wednesday visited a pre-Labor Day Job and Career Fair, which offered Cebuanos nearly 18,000 jobs. The President arrived at the Mandaue Sports Complex and Cultural Center at about 4:30 p.m. and was joined by several national and local officials. In an interview with reporters, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said 14,000 overseas jobs and more than 3,000 local jobs were being offered at the fair. Secretary Baldoz also said that on Labor Day on Sunday (May 1), job and career fairs will be held in five venues in Region 7, and in 43 other venues in the country. She noted that labor unions will not join the traditional Labor Day events this year, having begged off so they could hold their respective rallies for the presidential candidates they support. However, labor unions will participate in a pre-Labor Day event on occupational safety and health on Saturday (April 30), she said, adding that the result of this event will become the final output for a manifesto on the labor unions' proposed agenda that will be presented to the next administration. Baldoz further said that under President Aquino's leaders ...Read more
