TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, April 2 (PIA)— Authorities in Calbayog City are trying to hunt down the inmates who escaped from Calbayog City Jail at 9:30 in the morning, today, April 2.
Calbayog City Chief of Police Elmer Cinco in a phone patch with the Philippine Information Agency confirmed the Jail Break in the city, saying this happened while the inmates were having Bible Study.
He added that Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) immediately called the Calbayog City PNP station for augmentation. BJMP already accounted the 87 inmates less the sixteen escapees.
At least sixteen armed prisoners escaped and are now subject to hot pursuit operations, Cinco said.
The list of escapees were identified as Romeo Coligado Jr with rape case from Barangay Hamorawon, Calbayog City, Crisanto Delos Reyes with frustrated murder case from Barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City, Romeo Penote with attempted rape case of Barangay Danao, Calbayog City, Dindo Calagos Magbutay with rape case from Brangay Cabucnacao, Calbayog City, Ian Pante with murder case of Barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City.
Other escapees were identified as Efren Pante, with murder case of barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City, Jefrey Dealagdon with murder case of Barangay Cabjumadac, Calbayog City, Romeo Carpio with murder case of Barangay Tarabucan, Calbayog City, Edwin Abria with murder case of Barangay Calilihan, Malix Losente with murder case of Barangay Roxas 2, Calbayog City, Melvin Juanerio with murder of Barangay Migara Calbayog City.
Completing the list of escapees Dante Galileo and Joey Agas with highway robbery case of Barangay Palanit, San Isidro Northern Samar, Rogelio Cuanico with robbery in band of Barangay Bonifacio, Lope De Vega Northern Samar, Freddie Cagomoc with robbery in band of BarangayBonifacio, Lope De Vega Northern Samar, and Roberto Pintuan with rape case of Barangay Dagum, Calbayog City.
The official also said that inmates have escaped from the jail after they forcibly got the service fire arms of duty jail guard.
Cinco said initial investigation indicated that the jail guards revealed that inmates run away from the jail towards the north, in the direction of barangays Navarro, Kili-kili and Luok.
Hot pursuit operation is being conducted by joint elements from PNP Calbayog, BJMP, Samar Police Provincial Office, Philippine Army elements from 43rd and 63rd Infantry Battalion and 801st Brigade
Right after the incident, Cinco disclosed that they have established a command post inside BJMP compound in Calbayog City. (PIA 8 with Avha H. Ebalde)
