NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Aug. 29 (PIA6) - - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) heightened the implementation of the tri-partite agreement on wildlife trade monitoring at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
DENR, Police Center for Aviation Security (PCAS) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) inked a Memorandum of Agreement in June this year for monitoring of wildlife trade in airports.
CENR Officer Edgardo Rostata met with representatives from the partner agencies recently to authorize the assignment of Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Services (PAWCZMS) personnel at the airport for the enforcement of the MOA together with the CAAP and PCAS personnel.
Regional Executive Director Adeluisa G. Siapno initiated this effort and entered a MOA with partners requiring DENR Officials in the Region to assign personnel at the Airport in order to strengthen monitoring and law enforcement in terms of wildlife trading.
Meanwhile, Assistant Airport Manager Ofelia Leonardo and P/SINSP Rommel Ybañez of PCAS appreciate the presence of DENR personnel at the airport considering that they often encounter difficulties in dealing with offenses punishable under RA 9147, or the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 as well as the implementation of protocols and proper documents that would support any movement of wildlife and its by-products.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6/CENRO Negros Occidental)
