NDPR week focuses on PWDs' freedoms, rights

ILOILO CITY, July 15 (PIA6) - - “Karapatan at Pribilehiyo ng Maykapansanan: Isakatuparan at Ipaglaban!” is the theme of the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week this year.

The theme focuses on the realization of the fundamental freedoms and rights of person with disabilities as provided for in existing international mandates and national laws.

In Western Visayas, the Regional Committee on Disability Affairs 6 will spearhead the week-long celebration from July 17 to 23, 2017 with series of activities to be held in Iloilo City and in the province of Aklan.

The activities slated in Iloilo City are Abilympics on July 17 at SM City Iloilo; Health Fair on July 20 at Punta Villa Resort and Convention Center; and Re-assessment on the 2016 Accessibility Audit on July 21.

Two activities will be held in the province of Aklan that include Tourism Accessibility Audit on July 26 to 27 and Forum on the Rights of PWDs on July 28 – 29.

Meanwhile, through Memorandum Circular No. 2017 – 69, Department of the Interior and Local Government Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero enjoined all the local government units to support the celebration by conducting fitting activities.

Some of the activities suggested in the memorandum are: Walk for your Rights, Trade Fairs and Bazaars of Products made by PWDs, Employer’s Talk Shop for PWD employment, Cultural Show Presentation, Understanding and Management of Individuals with AD/HD, and Hanging of advocacy streamers in conspicuous places.

NDPR Week is celebrated in the country every year in accordance with Proclamation No. 1870 s. 1979, as amended by Proclamation No. 361, s. 2000 and Administrative Order No. 35 s. 2002. (JCM/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
