DAET, Camarines Norte, Aug. 9 (PIA) – An information hub for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was formally launched at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Camarines Norte office, provincial capitol this province.
The PIA Information Hub aims to showcase communication and information collaterals about ASEAN as well as information’s pertaining to tourism, social-economic, demographic and other profiles in agriculture arts and cultures and among others of the province.
The launching was held through a ribbon-cutting led by Daet Municipal Administrator Joan Kristine Tabernilla-de Luna and Provincial Information Officer Sherwin Mata, with PIA officials and staff as well as media partners.
Tabernilla said that the hub is a big opportunity for the students who are studying about Southeast Asia.
She said that students and the public will not only rely on social media, because of the hub they can come and visit to get information on ASEAN.
Mata on the other hand said that Governor Edgardo Tallado supports the programs of PIA as well as on ASEAN promotions.
He assured that resources and assistance will be provided to the PIA including the use of the lobby as ASEAN hub in the province.
Meanwhile, Marlon Loterte, assistant regional director said that the hub is one projects of the PIA with the support of local government units.
“The ASEAN activities in the country will culminate on November, after this we can go beyond on our programs and initiatives with the local government units and national government agencies,” he said.
He thanked both the local government units of Camarines Norte and Daet and assured the support of the PIA especially on information programs.
Information materials on ASEAN can also be seen in the PIA Information Kiosks installed by the PIA in the airport of Legazpi City, Matnog Pier of Sorsogon and at the Camarines Sur Water Complex (CWC) in Camarines Sur and we are planning for more, he said.
He drumbeat that on the coming August 21-25, there will be Senior Officials Meeting of ten ASEAN member countries about Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Misibis, Albay.
ASEAN is celebrating its 50th aniversary this year. The members of the ASEAN aside from the Philippines are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
