TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite Apr. 18 (PIA) -- The joint venture agreement between Watergy Business Solutions Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Macro Asia Properties Development Corporation (MAPDC) and the Maragondon Water District (MWD) commenced the Maragondon Bulk Water Supply Project through the recent groundbreaking ceremony held at the covered court of Poblacion 2-A in the municipality of Maragondon.

The project aims to provice MWD with treated water for the improvement of Maragondon’s water supply.

This project plans to replace the use of groundwater aquifer as the primary source of the municipality’s water requirement due to its rapid depletion from over abstraction.

Maragondon river will be utilized by the project as the new source of raw water wherein a submersible, overflowing wire across the narrow portion of the river will be fitted for ease of abstraction and to prevent the intrusion of sea water to the intake chamber during the high tide, a river intake facility, a 200 linear meter raw water pipeline from the river intake to the treatment plant, a conventional, scalable, water treatment facility, and steel bolted treated water reservoirs.

The treatment facility will be located in a four hectare property owned by Cavite Business Resources, Inc. in Barangay Tulay-A with plans of converting the banks of Maragondon River near the intake to a linear park and a river view deck with solar powered park lights that will showcase environmental conservation and sustainability.

The success of this project will not only benefit the municipality but also the neighboring cities and municipalities of the province as well who extract water supply from ground water wells that is prone to saline intrusion within a relative short time due to extensive exploitation.  (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/with reports from PICAD/Maragondon PIO)
