RICs showcase ‘Linubian’ making

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 5 (PIA) - - Members of the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) here demonstrated their skills in making 'Linubian' as part of the 434th Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration.


Linubian or mashed cassava mixed with all other ingredients to create sumptuous and irresistible dish, is one of the historic and traditional delicacies of the province served whenever there are occasions during World War II until the early 1990’s. 


“This is part of our rich history which is usually associated with the traditional courtship. According to our forefathers, while Linubian is being prepared, single males will take the chance to court the single ladies in the group," Pearlita Mabazza, provincial agriculturist, said.


To revive and promote the province's culture and traditions, RICs from the different towns here showcased their largest Linubian during the 434th Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration where Tuao won first prize with P20,000 cash incentive, followed by Baggao and Sta. Teresita in the second and third spots with P15,000 and P10, 000 cash prizes, respectively.


Governor Manuel Mamba said the activity is not just to showcase the skills of Cagayanos in making Linubian but to encourage the public to prioritize locally nutritious and healthy foods that are abundant in the community.


Mamba added that the activity is a venue for local residents here to share among themselves the traditional way of making Linubian as well as other local products that have been part of the Cagayan’s history. (ALM/OTB-PIA/Cagayan)
