Tagalog news: Abandonabong minahan sa Mogpog at Sta. Cruz nais gawing ecotourism area

BOAC, Marinduque, Abril 18 (PIA)-- Matapos makita ni Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Regina Lopez ang naging epekto ng malawakang pagbaha ng tailings ng Marcopper sa ilog ng Mogpog at Boac, nais ng kanilang ahensya na gawin ang mga abandonadong minahan bilang ecotourism area.

Ayon kay Lopez makakatulong daw ang biochar upang mapanumbalik ang katabaan ng lupa sa pamamagitan ng ganitong proseso. Epektibo daw ang ganitong pamamaraan upang muling mapagtanimaan ang lugar na maghahatid ng malaking tulong sa organikong pagsasaka.

Bukod pa rito, malaki rin daw ang maitutulong ng biochar sa pagpapabuti ng kalidad at dami ng tubig kasabay ng pagpapanatili din ng katabaan ng lupa.

Gaya ng ginawa nila sa Surigao del Norte, hangad din ng DENR na magkaroon ng forest park  sa mga minahan na iniwanan matapos magsara ang mga ito sa lalawigan.

Nangako din ang kalihim ng kagawaran na tutulungan nilang bumuo ng community organizers ang Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Marinduque kasama si Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit ng Diyosesis ng Boac para sa muling pagtatanim ng mga kawayan sa mga tabing ilog. Malaking tulong daw kasi ang mga kawayan upang sipsipin ang mga mabibigat na metal na nasa ilalim ng lupa.

Samantala, dahil sa mataas na nilalaman na cadmium, lead at copper sa ilog ng barangay Hinapulan, Boac, magkakaroon daw sila ng pagsusuri upang matunton nila kung saan mismo nagmumula ang mga elementong ito na naging sanhi nang pagkasugat ng mga paa ng mga batang tumatawid sa ilog patungong eskwelahan. Ayon sa pag-aaral, ito rin ang naging dahilan nang pagkamatay ng mga isda sa ilog na naging ugat ng kawalan ng kabuhayan ng mga nangingisda doon.

Inaasahan naman ng Marinduque Council for Environmental Concerns (MaCEC) na maisasakatuparan agad ang konkretong rehabilitasyon para sa ilog ng Boac, Mogpog at Kalankan Bay. Hiling din nila sa DENR na sana ay huwag na nilang hayaang magbukas pang muli ang Consolidated Mines Inc. at Marcopper Mining Corp.

"Kaya po gusto po namin na aksyunan agad ng ating national government sa pamamagitan ng ating kalihim ng DENR na kanya pong tugunan ang pagsasaayos ng mga dam. Kung maari po ay i-decommission na nila ang mga dam na 'yan at magkaroon na ng concrete rehabilitation lalo na sa Boac river, Mogpog river at Calancan bay kung saan visible pa rin ang walong kilometrong tambak ng basura na nagiging dahilan ng sakit ng mga residente," sabi ni Beth Manggol ng MaCEC.

Sagot naman ni Lopez bukod sa pagpapatibay ng regulasyon ay nakatuon din sila sa pagsasaayos ng mga nasirang kalikasan. Para sa kanya, hindi maipagpapatuloy ang pangangalaga ng kalikasan kung walang pakinabang ang komunidad. Kaya naman ayon sa kanya ay magpapadala ang DENR ng area development team na titingin kung ano ang nararapat gawin upang mapanumbalik ang ganda ng mga naabandonang lugar. (PIA-MIMAROPA/Marinduque)
