TARLAC CITY, March 17 (PIA) -- Department of Health (DOH) Provincial Office and Tarlac City Health Office (CHO) conducted a lecture on Tuberculosis (TB) and free check-up in barangay San Miguel.

The forum aims to make the public more aware of the global epidemic of TB and the efforts to eliminate the disease.

DOH Provincial Head Luz Lopez explained that TB, as defined by the World Health Organization, is an infectious bacterial disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, which commonly affects the lungs.

“It is transmitted from person to person via droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease,” Lopez said.

Lopez also informed the participants how to avoid and cure this disease.

Aside from the lecture, DOH and CHO conducted free consultation and free medical prescription and gave away medicines to TB patients.

The activity was in line with the observance of World TB Day, which carried the theme: “Unite to End TB.” (CLJD/TJBM-PIA 3)
