TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, August 9 (PIA) - - Hundreds of government and private employees, and representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) took part in the simultaneous nationwide ASEAN landmark lighting at the Queen Isabela Park in the City of Ilagan on Tuesday night as part of the ASEAN's 50th anniversary celebration.
With the theme “Under One Light, we are One ASEAN”, the commemorative event was simultaneously held in 74 key cities nationwide and in the capitals of the ASEAN member-states.
Atty. Odilon L. Pasaraba, assistant regional director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said as we joined the country in this momentous event, it is right but fitting to recognize the contributions of the ASEAN’s founding fathers.
Pasaraba is optimistic that the Landmark Lighting in the capitals of all ASEAN member-states may inspire ASEAN people to move forward with the rest of the world.
“May this commemorative event bring a sense of cohesion and unity amidst cultural diversities and disparities in the region,” Pasaraba said.
Isabela Governor Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III, in his message during the Landmark Lighting, vowed to promote ASEAN's thrusts and objectives and its benefits in fostering the culture and economy of the Philippines and the other member-countries.
The governor is hopeful that with the staging of this commemorative event, the provincial government in partnership with various government agencies, will be able to elicit the Filipino people’s support to ASEAN’s programs and advocacies and build a well-informed citizenry on the benefits we derived and continue to derive as member-nation of the ASEAN.
Dy urged all sectors in the society to support and participate in all ASEAN-related events and activities at the local and national levels as we are all committed to building a strong and resilient ASEAN Community with one vision and identity.
The landmark lighting was immediately followed by an ASEAN Music Party Concert led by Fyn Ramirez, a native of Isabela who won one gold and four medals in the recently concluded 2017 World Championship of Perfroming Arts in Long Beach, California. (ALM/PIA-2)
