TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 19 (PIA) – Series of celebrations await this month of June as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) spearheads several environmental events aimed at promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.
The environment events celebrated this month are the Philippine Environment Month, World Environment Day, Philippine Eagle Week, DENR founding anniversary, and Philippine Arbor day on June 25.
DENR regional director Leonardo Sibbaluca urges everyone to participate in the protection and conservation of the environment.
“As we celebrate the Philippine Environment Month and other environmental events, let’s all be reminded of our role as stewards of the earth. Let’s join hands in making our one and only earth a better place to live,” Sibbaluca said.
Anchored on the theme “Connecting People to Nature,” this year’s Philippine Environment Month encourages people to go outside, appreciate the beauty of nature, and take part in the call to protect mother earth.
Maita Reina Sucgang, chief, DENR’s public affairs office, said this month’s celebration is aimed at adding consciousness to the relationship of people with nature which underscores the dependency of human on nature in many ways.
Other activities for this month include tree planting, clean-up campaign, conferences, and media orientation.
Every June is celebrated as the Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1988 by former President Corazon Aquino.(DENR8/PIA8/ajc/cba)
