GAANO sets 1st sportsfest

DUMAGUETE CITY, March 17 (PIA) – Some heads and representatives of National Government Agencies (NGAs) in Negros Oriental comprising the Government Agencies’ Association of Negros Oriental (GAANO) convened today to discuss the preparations and finalize the general guidelines of the 1st GAANO Inter-Office Sports Festival.

The 1st GAANO Sportsfest is expected to start in May and will culminate in September during the celebration of Civil Service Month.

Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) – Dumaguete City Branch Manager and GAANO President Atty. Mercedes Enriquez said the activity aims to develop an atmosphere of camaraderie, wellness and fun between the NGAs that are part of the association.

The sportsfest will be launched on May 6 with a parade in the morning at Freedom Park, Capitol Area, this city.

After this, players from different NGAs will compete in different cultural sports which include patintero, sack race relay, tug-of-war, paligid relay and karang.

On the other hand, major sports competitions include basketball for men, volleyball, chess, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, and dodgeball for men and women, and scrabble for the agency executives.

The schedule of the games will be every Friday and Saturday afternoons after the launch of the sportsfest.

GSIS Information Officer and Sportsfest Focal Person Risty Villahermosa said that players participating in every game must be employed with agency regardless of the status of their appointment.

Players must be employed with the agency as of March 7, 2017. A certification will be issued by the head of agency to certify their qualification to participate in the sports tournament.

NGAs that are part of GAANO have until March 22 to submit their entry forms, medical certificate to prove they are physically fit to play in the different sports event and other registration documents to Villahermosa through e-mail.

For small government agencies, they can merge with other government offices. A merged group can be composed of a maximum of three agencies.

Villahermosa said he will have a meeting again with the tournament managers of the major sports event to discuss and finalize the specific details of each game.

On the other hand. Atty. Enriquez also said she will have a meeting with heads of NGAs to finalize the full details and fix other concerns regarding the sportsfest on March 31.

Some of NGAs that are members of GAANO include the six divisions of the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Food Authority (NFA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Agriculture (DA), Social Security System (SSS), Civil Service Commission (CSC), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and PIA.  (rmn/ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)

Consumer confidence is generally unchanged for Q1 2017

MANILA, March 26 -- Consumer outlook was broadly steady for Q1 2017, with the overall confidence index (CI) decreasing slightly to  8.7 percent from 9.2 percent for Q4 2016.
