ILOILO CITY, May 18 (PIA6) ---  Ilonggo native delicacies or ‘kakanin’ may soon be part of the menu of hotels in Western Visayas.
The Department of Tourism (DOT)-6 plans to gather all native delicacies from various parts of the region for a huge food-tasting event.
DOT-6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas said the agency will invite the food and beverage managers of hotels in Western Visayas to have ‘food-tasting’ which will range from appetizers, main dish, and desserts.
“They will have food-tasting in one big hall and will rate which ones are to be included in the menu of what hotels,” she said.
She said this endeavor will be a big help for local delicacy makers and food vendors because this will reduce their selling time in the streets and peddling from house-to-house or from building-to-building.

“I want to see one day the Alimodian’s ‘kalamay sa buri’ to be in the dessert menu of some of the hotels,” she said.
She said that the survey is ongoing and they will shortlist all these products.
She added that concerned agencies and stakeholders need to collaborate because tourism is everybody’s business. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
