QUEZON CITY, July 17 (PIA)--The Quezon City Council has passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Herbert Bautista to grant a P1 million financial assistance to the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mangaawit (OPM).
City Resolution 7081-2017 introduced by Councilors Franz S. Pumaren, Godofredo T. Liban II, and Alexis R. Herrera is supported by Section 23 of the Local Government of 1991 which states that “Local chief executives may, upon authority of the Sanggunian, negotiate and secure financial grants of donations in kind, in support of the basic services of facilities enumerated under Section 17 hereof, from local and foreign assistance agencies without necessity of securing clearance or approval therefore from any department, agency, or office of the national government or from any higher local government unit.”
The P1 million financial assistance will be used for promotional partnership and funding of OPM Programs and operational costs from January 2017 to December 2017. The resolution will also assist in the welfare and hospitalization benefits of Filipino singers.
OPM is a well-respected non-stock, non-profit association of Filipino singers in the country. It also advocates the rights and welfare in support of singers and composers in the country. The organization is lead by famous Filipino singer Ogie Alcasid together with other Filipino artists such as Noel Cabangon, Christian Bautista, Gary Valenciano, and Jose Mari Chan as members of the committee.
OPM is also active in promoting the Philippine music industry. This year they are going to celebrate the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, an annual week-long celebration that showcases local musicians of different genre. The lineup of events will run from July 22 to 30.(QC PAISO/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
