Vigan City lines up activities for NDPR Week

VIGAN CITY, July 14 (PIA) – The Vigan City Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons has prepared a string of events for the observance of the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17-23.

Ma. Celerina Agcamaran, city social welfare and development officer of Vigan, said the activities are meant to stimulate public awareness on disability and encourage every resident to take active responsibility in enriching the economic and social conditions of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Based on the recent meeting of the Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, the activities for the NDPR Week celebration will start on Sunday, July 16 with a Eucharistic celebration to be held at the Benedictine Nuns of the Eucharistic King.

A motorcade and an arts and crafts exhibit will be conducted on July 17 which will be participated in by PWDs and children with disabilities (CWDs).

Those who want to avail of free medical, dental, and eye check-up may visit the City Health Office on July 18.

A two-day sportsfest with indoor and outdoor games is also scheduled on July 20-21 at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay town.

The remaining days of the week will bear witness to activities like disaster preparedness and basic first-aid training, food processing training, disability sensitivity training, and training on mango grafting.

“I enjoin all stakeholders to participate in these activities and take an active role in the upliftment of the lives of PWDs in the city,” said Agcamaran.

This year’s theme, “Karapatan at Pribilehiyo ng may Kapansanan, Isakatuparan at Ipaglaban,” focuses on the realization of the fundamental freedoms and rights of PWDs as provided for in existing international mandates and national laws. (JNPD/AMB/PIA-1, Ilocos Sur)
