CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Mar.20(PIA) – The province had received a total  of P4.511million cash donations intended as aid to families affected by super typhoon ‘Lawin’ last year.

Provincial Social Welfare and  Development Officer Digna Dalutag reported bulk of the money is distributed as shelter assistance to 136 families whose houses were damaged.

Each family shall receive P10, 000 cash assistance in the form of materials, Dalutag disclosed.  Those who earlier received P5000 cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are included, she added.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council had identified 10 barangays in the province’s ‘Pumiyaan’ municipalities as beneficiaries, namely San Pedro, San Francisco, Bulbul and Kinama in Rizal Municipality, Magaogao and Sucbut of Pinukpuk, Butbut Proper, Buscalan and Tulgao in Tinglayan and Balbalan Proper in Balbalan.

But she qualified not all of the donation would go to shelter assistance because some donors had identified preferred recipients of their cash donations.

Chevron-Kalinga Limited had identified Barangay Balatoc, Pasil as beneficiary of its  P238,170 donation; Kalinga Residents of Alberta, USA  wants their  P237,967 aid to go to schools affected  while  the Cordillera Administrative Region Union of Cooperatives opted  that its P50,000 aid  be e given to cooperatives.

Dalutag said a portion of the cash donation shall be used for repair of damaged public infrastructure. (LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
