Rural Enterprises, infra projects up in IFAD Mission visit in Agusan Norte

BUTUAN CITY, July 17 -- The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Mission Team conducted an implementation support mission in line with the Project ConVERGE (Convergence for Value-Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment) and visited the participating farmer-groups in TUJAKITSAN Cluster (Tubay, Jabonga, Kitcharao and Santiago) Agusan del Norte on June 28, 2017.

Agusan del Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II  Andre B. Atega welcomed the guests  from IFAD Mission headed by the Country Program Officer Jerry Pacturan; Central Project Management Office, Faisar A. Mambuay; Regional Project Management Office headed by Engr. Felix B. Aguhob and staffs.

The mission has discussion with coop-officers of San Isidro Upland Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SIUFMULCO), as the proponent and lead organization of the 21 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations in TUJAKITSAN ARC assisted by the project.

During the visit, the mission discussed various projects in line with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) poverty reduction program through Project ConVERGE funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

IFAD Country Program Officer Jerry Pacturan validated the various  sub-projects that include Support for Farm and Enterprise Development (SFED) and Rural Infrastructure Investments under the Integrated Smallholders Agricultural and Rural Enterprise Development (I-SHARED) Component.

The SFED subcomponent  comprises farmer production improvement, value addition and diversification, market and investment facilitation and rural finance facilitation.

Jason Lim of Ching Bee Corporation expressed willingness to help SIUFMULCO in area of financial support if the supply of abaca will increase due to the abaca production expansion funded by ConVERGE.

“I will increase the trading capital if the coop seen to double their abaca production soon,” Lim said.

Ching Bee has been partnering with SIUFMULCO for years providing capital amounted to P5 Million per week to be liquidated thru delivery of abaca fiber of 200 tons per week.

Based on the latest available data from Provincial Project Management Office (PPMO), the total direct beneficiaries of the project to include capability development intervention is about 1,586 of which 893 are agrarian reform beneficiaries  (ARBs).

Aside from the support for farm and enterprise development, the Project ConVERGE provided rural infrastructure such as farm-to-market road that will open up economic opportunities of agrarian reform beneficiaries and farm-workers in TUJAKITSAN ARC.
