PCA-ARMM intensifies program implementation to boost livelihood of coconut farmers

COTABATO CITY July 11 (PIA) – The Philippine Coconut Authority in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PCA XIV-ARMM) vows to  intensify efforts to help improve the livelihood  of the coconut farmers through its nationwide projects.

PCA Regional Manager III Marina Wahab discussed some of their projects to help the coconut farmers improve their farming techniques for increased income through  the Accelerated Coconut Planting and Re-planting Project with its two components: the Participatory Coconut Planting Project and The Coconut Seedling Dispersal Project.

According to Wahab, the Participatory Coconut Planting project involves the selection and planting of quality materials.

“In PCPP, we teach the farmers how to select good planting materials either from their own farms or they have to buy it outside. After that, they will establish the nursery to grow the seedlings and then we'll pay them incentives. We will pay them P18 per seedling produced. These are the good quality seedlings that are ready to be planted,” she said.

PCA will pay additional P22 per stabilized seedlings, which Wahab explained refer to seedlings that have grown as productive trees. 

Under the Coconut Seedling Dispersal Project,  PCA grow the seedlings and distribute these  to farmers in  ARMM  for  free. 

Wahab said, the project has been implements CSDP in Basilan. 


According to PCA, Maguindanao has recorded the highest coconut production  at 900,000 nuts per year, followed by Lanao with 700,000 nuts  and Sulu with 600,000 nuts. (LTOBolongon/PBChangco-PIA Cotabato City)

MSMEs competitiveness enhanced
