Makilala LGU-assisted tertiary school earn CHED recognition

MAKILALA, North Cotabato, Aug. 8 (PIA) – The Makilala Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) recently received  recognition as a new higher education institution (HEI) in SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

 

Makilala Mayor Rudy Caoagdan said the four years of hard work, persistence and dedication of both officials of the local government unit (LGU) and the MIST has paid off  with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recognition.

 

The recognition was stated in CHED en banc Resolution No. 463-2017  which was presented by CHED 12  Director Maximo Aljibe to LGU and MIST officials last month, in time with the investiture of Dr. Gerardo A. Rigonan, the new college president.CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan signed the certification on July 4.

 

At the ceremony Aljibe lauded Mayor Caoagdan and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Makilala for their effort and dedication in helping the youth in the locality and nearby areas who are now enjoy the opportunity to pursue their respective dreams and aspiration by means of providing them avenue to an absolutely free tertiary education.

 

As a newly recognized HEI, MIST is now entitled to receive government subsidy through CHED for the tuition of the enrolled students. Funds will be received by LGU Makilala, which runs the education institution.

 

MIST was established in June, 2014 through a Sanggunian Bayan Ordinance No. 08-2014 approved on June 6, 2014.

 

Since it was established, the school has been offering courses such as BS in Entrepreneurship, Associate in Computer Technology, BS in Agriculture, Bachelor in Agricultural Technology, Bachelor in Public Administration and BA in Midwifery. Vocational and technical courses were also offered.

 

Since 2016, MIST has also offered  senior  high school.  (AC Agad PIA 12 with reports from LGU Makilala)
