City’s tourism office urges Dabawenyos to help promote Davao

  • August 07, 2017

DAVAO CITY Aug. 7 (PIA)- The City Tourism Operations Office is urging Dabawenyos to help promote their hometown to tourists as the city is reeling from the impact of the martial law declaration.

CTOO head Gene Rose Tecson said that promoting Davao City will not benefit the office but will be for the good of the city.

Tecson says she is hoping the city can equal last year’s tourist arrivals during the Kadayawan Festivities, which was recorded at around 165,000 visitors.

“We would be jumping for joy if this year’s Kadayawan surpasses the visitor arrivals of last year.” Tecson said guesting at this Monday’s Kapehan sa SM at SM City Annex Activity Center.

She said the martial law declaration and subsequent extension ate into the 22% increase of tourist arrivals set in the first quarter of the year which was primarily due to the ASEAN activity held in the city.

Tourism and the hotel sector was hard hit by martial law. Data from the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center showed 78 functions or events cancellation and an unrealized profit of P20.9 million (As of June 6, 2017) because of martial law fears.

Tecson said they are now launching the promotional activities for Kadayawan. “By now billboards would have been set up nationwide.” The City’s Tourism chief said.

This year’s Kadayawan is touted to be one of the largest and grandest held to show that everything is still normal in Davao City. (PIA/RG Alama)
