DAVAO CITY Aug. 4 (PIA)- Davao City will join the historic landmark lighting of the ASEAN lantern this August 8. The activity marks the 50th founding anniversary of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).
According to Gene Rose Tecson, City Tourism Operations Officer the landmark lighting in Davao City will be held at the Centennial Park in front of the Sangguniang Panglungsod at around 5:30 pm on August 8. Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will grace the historic lighting.
About 76 local government units from all over the country will also join the landmark lighting.
Davao City and the Municipality of San Isidro in Davao Oriental are the only LGUs in Region XI who will join the lighting. San Isidro covers a large part of Mt. Hamiguitan, which is an ASEAN Heritage Park, one of the 34 sites across the ASEAN region.
ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok Thailand. The country was one of the founding members alongside Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. (PIA/RG Alama)
