Mindanao gets record high infra priority

DAVAO CITY July 12 (PIA)- Mindanao had its highest-ever share in the infrastructure pie with 40% of the national infrastructure projects allocated to the region this year.

According to Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) director for investment promotions and public affairs Assistant Secretary Romeo Montenegro, the national government has approved 25 projects this 2017.

“As a result of our joint planning and programming with the Department of Public Works and Highways under our Mindanao Development Corridors Program we have been able to get approval for Mindanao or 25 infrastructure projects  particularly roads, bridges and flood control.” Asec Montenegro said.

Montenegro said the projects is worth P17-billion for 2017. Also by 2018, 15 out of the 25 projects which are long gestating have allocated funding with additional 12 new projects and which will have a total of P18-billion.

“Starting in 2016, 2017 Mindanao has been getting the highest allocation of the DPWH at around 40%.” Montenegro said.

Previous allocation were paltry for Mindanao in some years just being allocated 11% of the infrastructure budget of the country.

“We used to get 11% then 17%, 20% now we are getting 40%.” Montenegro said. (PIA/RG Alama)
