DOLE-10 orients employers/workers on contracting/sub-contracting rules

ILIGAN CITY, May 18 --- A total of 141 participants attended an orientation on the Department Order No. 174, series of 2017 (DO 174-17) or the Rules Implementing Contracting/Sub-Contracting arrangements held on May 4 by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 here.

Remegio D. Cabañog, DOLE-Lanao del Norte chief said the participants who were all coming from the city and Lanao del Norte, represented the management sector from the various establishments/companies of the different industries, registered contractors/ sub-contractors, employees and labor groups as well as representatives from the government offices.

One of the questions raised was on the various types of workers and their technicalities, by the employees of the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).

DOLE-10 Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao explained the salient features of the Rules. He clarified the definitions on regular, casual, seasonal, project-based, and probationary employees either directly hired by the principal employer or under a trilateral relationship with emphasis on the aspect of security of tenure.

While the Federation of Democratic Labor Organization (FDLO) inquired on the protection of the rights of the workers, which Director Suyao clarified that DO 174-17 guarantees the rights of workers to labor standards, occupational safety and health standards, social welfare benefits, and other labor-related issuances, including the free exercise of their right to self-organization and collective bargaining. US Embassy, UP-IIS host ‘iftars’ in honor of Ramadan
