Over 1,000 participants expected to attend PIA-ASEAN Roadshow in May

PAGADIAN CITY, May 1 (PIA) – The upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional communication campaign dubbed “PIA-ASEAN Roadshow”,  to be held in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Pagadian and Dipolog City on May 8-10 is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants from public and private sectors.

The three-day event is organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-9 in partnership with the local government units (LGUs) which will be attended by barangay officials, businessmen, academe, women’s groups, farmers, fisherfolks, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples  and youth, among others.

PIA Regional Director Noemi B. Edaga said the information-dissemination activities on the ASEAN consists of multi-sectoral fora  and launching of information kiosks in public places.

Edaga said the activities will be held in the following areas: May 8, launching of PIA Kiosk at the Municipal Hall and Multi-Sectoral Forum in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; May 9- launching of PIA Kiosks at Gaisano Capital Mall and Pagadian City Airport and Multi-Sectoral Forum at the Executive Building, City Hall; and lastly, May 10– launching of PIA Kiosk at Top Plaza Mall and Multi-Sectoral Forum in Dipolog City.

“Officials from Central Office are expected to grace the events to also share valuable information regarding the ASEAN,” RD Edaga added.

During the fora, representatives from different government agencies will be speaking and promoting their services and programs to the public.

Meanwhile, Regional Director Sitti Amina M. Jain of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-9 confirmed their agency’s participation and has issued a memorandum directing her provincial directors in the areas to actively support this momentous event.

Director Jain said the DTI will present a 2-minute video on “Rich and Economically Driven Communities: The Role of MSMEs in the ASEAN,” set-up a mini-exhibit at the venue and provide prizes (sample products) during the raffle draw.

It can be recalled that the ASEAN has three pillars, namely: the Economic Community chaired by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Socio-Cultural Community chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Political-Security Community chaired by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The Philippines is this year’s chair of the ASEAN which carries the  theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.” (ALT/GCC-PIA/Zamboanga del Sur)

Watch group finds school gardening tools laden with toxic lead
