MAASIN CITY Southern Leyte, Aug. 2 (PIA) – With the maiden flight of Air Juan yesterday, August 1, Maasin City Mayor Nacional “Nikko” Mercado and the people of Maasin’s wishes now become a reality.
“It has been a long dream or say a wish that an airflight will now be present in Maasin City,” the city mayor said who was one of the passengers of Air Juan’s first business flight from Cebu to Maasin route, that landed at around 10:30 A.M. in Panan-awan Airport here in Maasin City.
Air Juan flew back to Cebu at exactly 11:00 in the morning bringing some passengers as their maiden vouyage of the said airlines.
The mayor said that the presence of an airflight will bring progress to the city as well as bringing tourists in and economy will grow, saying that “hopefully if will increase its income and thus my (our) ultimate dream is to become a non-dependent Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) Maasin City.”
He told that as of now, Maasin City being a 4th class city with around P459,627,336.00 IRA from the national government for 2017 is still IRA-dependent. (ajc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
