Siquijor athletes make it to 2017 Palarong Pambansa

SIQUIJOR, April 4 (PIA) - - At least three student athletes from this province made it to the Palarong Pambansa in Antique Province set on April 23 to 27, 2017.

This was disclosed by Genevieve Aso, Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) announcer and principal of the Larena Central Elementary School, Division of Siquijor. 

Also in a press release, it was reported that 10 athletes from Siquijor Division have earned gold, silver and bronze medals during the recently conducted CVIRAA and three of them are qualified to compete for the Palarong Pambansa 2017 as part of the Central Visayas delegates.

They are gold medalists in Athletics Christian B. Tomarong  of Cabulihan Integrated School for the 500 meters; Almer Miñosa, of Tambisan National High School, for Pole Vault; and silver medalist Joey Lee Bongat of Enrique Villanueva Central Elementary School, who earned two silver medals in Athletics for Triple and Long Jumps.

Other CVIRAA winners are Silver Medalists in Tennis, Clint Mejie Samson and Sept Francis Samson of Siquijor Central Elementary School for the elementary category, and  Kenneth Banico and Heart Sotto  of Assisi High School also for Tennis, secondary category.

Bronze medalists in Athletics, elementary category are Kimberly Hilongo of Licoan Elementary School for Triple Jump and Jomari Galabin, a Special Education (SPED) ID of Larena Central Elementary School for 16-and-above 400 meters category, and Jose Marie L. Ingking of Enrique Villanueva High School for Discuss Throw, secondary category.

The 2017 Palarong Pambansa will highlight the role of the youth in building a better future, the Department of Education (DepEd) earlier said during the signing of  the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the host province of Antique.

The event will carry the theme “2017 Palarong Pambansa: Converges Youth Power, Builds Sustainable Future” where thousands of student athletes from elementary and secondary schools in the 18 regions of the country will converge in San Jose de Buenavista City for the 60th edition of the Palaro, the biggest inter-school competition organized by DepEd.
