Abra PNC recognizes barangays with zero-malnutrition cases, BNS

BANGUED, Abra, Aug. 8(PIA) -- Members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) awarded  local government units and   nutrition  workers    with zero-malnourished children during the culmination program of the 43rd National Nutrition Month celebration  last  July 31 at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall.

Awarded with plaque of recognition and a cash prize of Php8,000.00  each were barangay nutrition scholars  of the six barangays   with zero-malnourished children   namely   Nazarya Mamac of Brgy. Alangtin and   Emilia Sumalag of Brgy. Tubtuba, both of Tubo;    Charity Tolentino of Brgy. Pangal, Danglas;   Gloria Galera of Brgy. Benben, La Paz;   Matilde Dugayen of Brgy. Lamao, Bucloc; and   Lilia Berras of Brgy. Madalipay, Bucay.   

Also recognized were the six Most Improved Municipalities in 2016 in their Nutritional Status -Boliney, Dolores, Manabo, Peñarrubia, San Juan and Tubo.

The PNC has   been exerting efforts to improve the nutritional status of the province particularly among children ages 0 – 71 months old, with the hope of eventually graduating from being a consistent valedictorian in mal-nutrition in the Cordillera region. Hence, the concept of a reward system to give credit to the top performers in the promotion of the nutrition program of the province in the year 2016.

Dr. Antonio L. Valera, acting Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, thanked the BNS for their unwavering efforts and commitments in working closely with the mothers to guide them on the proper nutrition for their children, and to the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers(MNAOs) for their support to the nutrition program of the province.

Decimia D. Cabang also challenged the other BNS and MNAOs to work more seriously in promoting the alleviation of the nutritional status of their respective areas so that Abra may eventually graduate from being the Number One province with the most number of malnourished children. 

 The event was also highlighted with the awarding of Nurse Antonio “Bong” Japson, Jr. the MNAO of Peñarrubia for many years until last year, and BNS Marilou A. Lu of Brgy. Nagtupacan, Lagangilang, whose team danced to the delight of their fellow health service providers. (JDP/MTBB - PIA CAR, Abra)
